Livoltek implements fast-charging infrastructure for the Direxis TUSGSAL fleet, ensuring operational continuity and sustainable growth in public transport in the Barcelonès Nord area.
The electrification challenge
Electrifying a bus fleet involves more than simply incorporating new vehicles. The real challenge lies in daily operations: recharging dozens of units every night without impacting service. Direxis TUSGSAL already operates a fleet in which more than 60% of vehicles are hybrid or electric, with the goal of achieving a fully sustainable fleet in the medium term.
Technical solution and implementation
The project was developed in collaboration with Livoltek, responsible for system sizing, commissioning, and infrastructure maintenance. The installation stands out for:
- 15 dual chargers installed in this first phase, with capacity to scale up to 34–35 dual chargers (nearly 70 charging points).
- Smart Charging: power distribution among chargers to avoid exceeding the contracted capacity.
- Autocharge: automatic vehicle identification, simplifying operations for drivers.
- C5 anti-corrosion protection and automatic drying, adapted to the coastal location.
- Phased deployment, ensuring depot operations remain uninterrupted at all times.
Impact and sustainability
The project transformed a parking area into a fully operational bus depot, with a medium-voltage grid connection designed to reach up to 10 MW, ensuring future electrification without service disruption. This infrastructure makes it possible to:
- Recharge dozens of buses every night without affecting service.
- Support the sustainable growth of the electric fleet.
- Ensure operational continuity for more than 330 buses and 52 million passengers annually.
